Qualification Description

The FireQual Level 3 Certificate in Foundation Fire Risk Assessment is a regulated qualification designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to carry out fire risk assessments in buildings presenting low to moderate risk.

Fire risk assessments are a legal requirement across the UK and form a critical part of managing life safety within buildings. This qualification prepares you to support that responsibility in a structured, competent, and defensible way.

You will develop a clear understanding of how fires start, develop, and spread, and how building design, construction, and management influence risk. You will also learn how to evaluate fire safety measures and apply legislation, guidance, and recognised standards in real scenarios.

The qualification is aligned to BS 8674: 2025 and supports the Foundation level competencies expected of those working on behalf of a Responsible Person or Duty Holder.

It is designed for those at the start of their journey, typically working under supervision, and provides a structured pathway into professional fire risk assessment.

This is not theoretical learning in isolation.
It is the foundation of real-world fire risk assessment practice.

How does it work?

You attend a four-day training course, delivered either in the classroom or live online.

Following the training, you complete the qualification through a structured assessment process.

You will build a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your understanding and application of fire risk assessment principles. This includes written assignments, case-based work, and professional discussion, all assessed against defined criteria to ensure you meet the required standard.

All work is submitted through our online system and assessed by qualified assessors.

You have up to twelve months to complete the qualification, though many learners complete it sooner.

Once your portfolio has been reviewed and signed off, you will achieve a regulated Level 3 Certificate in Foundation Fire Risk Assessment.

This provides formal recognition of your Foundation level knowledge and skills, aligned to the expectations of those supporting fire risk assessments under supervision.
