Qualification Description

The FireQual Level 5 Certificate in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment is a regulated qualification designed to develop the expertise required to undertake fire risk assessments in buildings presenting a high level of risk.

At this level, the focus is on critical evaluation, professional judgement, and the ability to operate independently in complex environments.

You will learn how to interpret and apply fire safety legislation in detail, assess complex fire safety measures and management systems, and evaluate whether buildings meet the required standards. This includes analysing higher-risk scenarios, understanding the limitations of fire safety strategies, and making informed decisions where risk, design, and compliance intersect.

The qualification is aligned to BS 8674:2025 and supports the Advanced level competencies expected of those undertaking fire risk assessments on behalf of a Responsible Person or Duty Holder.

How does it work?

You attend a four day structured training course, delivered either in the classroom or live online.

Following the training, you complete the qualification through a structured assessment process.

You will build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your ability to apply advanced fire risk assessment principles in high risk environments. This includes written assignments, case-based work, and professional discussion, assessed against defined criteria.

All work is submitted through our online system and assessed by qualified assessors.

You have up to twelve months to complete the qualification, though many learners complete it sooner.

Once successfully completed, you will achieve a regulated Level 5 Certificate in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment.

Entry Requirements

To enrol on this qualification, you must meet one of the following:

Hold the FireQual Level 4 Certificate in Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment (or an equivalent qualification)

You must also:

Be at least 18 years old
Have suitable literacy, numeracy, and communication skills
